Gli altri (‘The others’)

This drama aims to be an invitation to reflect on the persistence of racist, xenophobic ideologies and prejudices and the multiple forms of intolerance and violence.

The plot develops from the exemplary story of a man and a woman who are suddenly brought into a hurricane of madness and persecution for the mere fact of being called “the others”. It is not their fault, they have not committed a crime, but someone has decided that they are not worthy of being able to live their lives freely because they are considered different from the dominant standards.

The two protagonists are constantly debating between regret for the lost life and the tragic reality of the present, in an exhausting alternation of resignation and rebellion. It is as if they are trapped in a time bubble in which the view of things is distorted.

The theater company QU.EM. Quintelemento is an Italian non-profit association created in 2010. Its main characteristic is the union between theatrical language and cinematographic techniques, which are embodied in the video theater, with more than five hundred productions. He also works in other fields: short films, social networks, cultural and social artistic events.

Its headquarters are in the Next Cultural Center, where workshops, meetings and theatrical performances and theatrical videos take place. This headquarters is officially recognized as the traveling headquarters of the Barba-Varley Foundation, chaired by Eugenio Barba, founder of Odin Teatret.

Since 2019, partner Paolo Ascangni has been president of the UILT, the Italian amateur theater federation, with eight hundred associated companies and fifteen thousand members, and the committee of federations of neo-Latin tradition collaborates with the Council of CIFTA.
